On September 2 Room 6 went to Maungatautari to learn about animals. We learnt about birds, predators and pests.
There are all sorts of birds, predators and pests like the Takahe, Fantail, Stichbird, Kereru and a Tui. The pests are mice and hedgehogs. Predators are animals like Ferrets, Weasels, Rats and Cats.Mrs Reid told us about all the birds, pests and predators.
We saw a Kiwi burrow and holes on the banks where the Kiwi look for food.
There are trees that have pink ribbons round them, that is a sign to say there is a tracking station near by. They put ink on a piece of cardboard and then they put peanut butter on the piece of wire. The predators walk along the ink to get the peanut butter then they leave foot prints so people can tell what predators are still in Maungatautari
A person was training a dog to track down a Kiwi.
We had a great time!
